About

As may become evident through my writings, I have a somewhat varied background with over 22 years college teaching experience, over 30 years experience in various federal positions and a significant amount of traveling and living in a variety of places and circumstances.  And, contrary to what is posted on the internet, I was born in Rome, Italy and achieved U.S. Naturalization as a child.

As you read my posts I sincerely hope you will feel comfortable and welcome in commenting on each. I regret being unable to have a “sit down” with each and every one of you, but I very highly regard the opportunity to engage in discussion with you.

There are some posts which have a “fictional” flavor, though your decision as to whether they are fiction is yours alone. Two examples are Reflections, and Zep Tepi – which is actually a later written chapter in Reflections.

The COMMENTS sections for all previous posts are now open. Please do let me get to know you through your comments.  Registration is easy and free.  No one will track you or bother you in any way. You will not receive calls from this site at dinner time.

Unfortunately, due to a very large volume of SPAM postings, I must delete comments that do not reference and specifically discuss particular articles I have posted. It is also possible that, if you try to file a comment without registering it will go to spam, where I will not see it. I feel badly about this, but circumstances demand it.

  7. First off I want to say wonderful blog! I had a quick question which I’d
like to ask if you don’t mind. I was interested to
know how you center yourself and clear your thoughts prior to writing.
I have had difficulty clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas out.
I truly do enjoy writing however it just seems like the
first 10 to 15 minutes are generally wasted simply just trying
to figure out how to begin. Any recommendations or tips?
    Thanks!

May I simply just say what a comfort to discover a person that truly knows what they are discussing online.
You certainly know how to bring a problem to light and make
it important. More people need to read this and
understand this side of the story. I can’t believe you are not more popular
since you surely possess the gift.

  17. Hi Marco, I found your blog in a sort of back-door way. Googling Georgia and IANDS, I came across your delicious summary of your meeting with Trappist monks, discussing life, death, and what comes after in the Oneiverse. Is there still an IANDS anywhere in GA? I’m not finding it online. Just moved here. Don’t have much of a community (though deeply grateful for my far-flung friends elsewhere). Would appreciate the opportunity to meet with others locally or nearby. Also more discussion of those Trappists. Thanks, lynette

    • Thank you so much for your lovely communication, Lynette. Indeed, I admire your tenacity in pursuing the bread crumbs which led you here.

Some years ago circumstances required that I significantly limit my participation in some groups, as my time was required elsewhere. While I was an active member of IANDS, and a sponsor of an informally aligned group, we were the only such group in Georgia. I do not know if any groups have arisen in Georgia since then. And, as most of the group was either federal colleagues or students from my college classes we can safely say almost all of them have distributed themselves far beyond the borders of Georgia. However, some of the group have retained interest in this blog site of mine and are kind enough to comment on articles when they can. It may be that you can connect with one or two locally through this site. I will recommend particulars articles on which they commented should you find this a possible means.

The archives are rather large, and cover many subjects. But you might find the article on a Death Education Curriculum helpful.

Please feel free to communicate via MPardi@aol.com if you choose. But do indicate in the subject line who you are or it goes to spam. Marco

Marco, wanted to stop by and say hello! We met at GPC Anthropology 1101 about 2006-2008. Loved being in your class and I loved the experience you gave us with Jamie Butler.

There is one topic I want to remember but having trouble. It was your views on Italy switching sides in WW1. Could you expand on why Italy switched sides?

  20. I’m so glad you are here. Actually, that was WWII, and the issue was that Italy was ruled by the Fascist Party. Yet, many people, including members of my family, were not Fascists (some were) and when Mussolini was overthrown (my father being one of the Italian officers who accomplished it) the non-Fascists overpowered the Fascists and declared their solidarity with the Allies.

So, it would be like the United States being under the rule of the Trump Republicans, and the people were eventually able to take power back from them. To say it was “switching sides” misses the point that Italy was not all Fascist by any means.
